The UK’s manufacturing industry is falling behind in their cyber security efforts and has been warned to step up their efforts or prepare for an attack if it has not happened yet already.
The voice of UK manufacturing, EEF, conducted a survey and found that nearly half of participants have not increased their spending on cyber security in the last two years, with nearly 20% acknowledging they don’t actively train their staff on cyber threats in company policies.
This warning comes amid heavy increases in cybersecurity preparedness in the UK, as the government recently committed to investing over £1.9 billion over the next five years.
Among those surveyed, 36% admitted to having an incident response plan in place, and only 24% claimed they monitor cyber threats through business KPIs.
These figures are alarming at the least, given the government recently released stats showing two-thirds of large UK businesses suffered a breach or a cyber-attack within the last year.
This overwhelming rate of attack should urge businesses to be more proactive in their cyber security endeavors. By integrating sophisticated threat intelligence solutions that provide the organization with the context necessary to handle an attack, the organization will know what went wrong, who’s responsible, and what can be done to mitigate the chances of it happening again.
Additionally, by introducing solutions like NNT’s Change Tracker Gen7, you’ll be provided with a threat intelligence solution that self-learns that good, and only exposes the bad. Instead of being constantly alerted of changes to your baseline, Gen7 will alert you of any suspicious changes that could pose harm to your IT environment
Prevention measures are still essential, but they don’t guarantee your systems are 100% hack proof. Host Intrusion Detection Technology is the safest approach your organization can take- so that if and when defenses are breached, you’re alerted and can take action before the damage goes too far.
