Attacks on thousands of its customers were analyzed in real time and recorded on average 633 attempted attacks every day in order to infiltrate their corporate networks. This daily attack rate amounts to 231,028 attempts over the year per firm.
Unsurprisingly, almost 70% of attacks targeted connected devices like networked security cameras, proving the Internet of Things threat is only increasing. These devices and endpoint are overwhelmingly seen as a potential weakness in corporate security systems, exposing organizations to the risk of compromise.
Between Q1 and Q4 2017, Beaming reported a six-fold increase in attacks targeting company databases. In addition, attempts to hijack Domain Name Systems saw a fivefold increase and attacks on remote desktop systems tripled. This makes 2017 the worst year yet for cyber threat targeting UK firms, according to Managing Director Donja Blizzard.
“Keeping anti-virus software up-to-date is a good first step, but it isn’t enough to combat the growing threat. Businesses need to review their network perimeter regularly, monitor corporate systems for unusual activity, and restrict access to personal email and file sharing applications in the workplace,” Blizzard claims.
NNT recommends implementing Closed Loop Intelligent Change Control to gain visibility of system configuration changes and to spot unusual activity that could represent an attack.
